Portrait of a Confederate Lady

In an effort to give the friends of the Hanley House a meaningful and educational view into the lives of 19th century Missourians like Martin Franklin Hanley and his family, the article that is the focus of this newsletter was written by someone with an intimate knowledge of the Hanley family.  Nita Yore Kelsey was the Great granddaughter of Martin and Cyrene Hanley.  Nita passed away in 2000 but before she left, she imparted her memories to us.  Like her father, Clem Yore, Nita was a poet.  We are so fortunate to have a record of her childhood in the form of photographs and the written word.  The composition is a loving account of the spirit of Aunt Cal.
